Julie was born in Glasgow but during her 20s lived in a number of cities in England, before moving to Edinburgh. During the spring of 2014 she decided to write an erotic story. One of her friends encouraged her to try and get it published. So, in the autumn of 2014, her first book The Spider Stockings was issued. By then she had already written a further book, Art School Goth and that appeared a month later. Her books are not autobiographical but are, to some extent, based on her experiences during a rather wild period of her life in her 20s. She has a very active imagination and is very good at devising rather intense sexual encounters. She has no pretentions about being a serious novelist, as her writing is totally rooted in eroticism. Nowadays erotic fiction tends to be written by men and primarily directed at a male readership. Julie has written a number of short erotic novellas which give a female perspective on the erotic experience. She normally writes in the first person to draw the reader directly into the action giving a sense of immediacy. For Julie, sex is pure fun, she avoids sinking into presenting depravity, unpleasantness, exploitative and not entirely consensual relationships, but instead writes stimulating sex scenes often with a underlying thread of humour. Her female characters are strong and confident in themselves, and often find amusement in their relationships with the men they meet, teasing and playing games and usually getting the better of them. Julie portrays women like herself, with strong characters, not the entirely submissive image presented in most male written erotica. |
